Set up originally with a microplate
reader, a cooled deck tray, an external heat exchanger for the
cooling system, microplate handler, several disposable tip racks and
pipetting positions, PCR block and a mag bead station. It is setup for disposable
tips, but can be converted to washable needles. The robot was originally
setup to run the Affymetrix T7
application.
TheOnyx laboratory robot offers a universal automation
solution for manual laboratory tasks in the handling of biological
processes.
It was especially developed for genomic
applications, in other words, for assisting in research work
designed to gain information regarding genomes of single or
multi-cellular organisms. Its area of application includes molecular
biological laboratories, where it assumes the task of liquid
handling between individual stations as well as actual processing.
Extensive manual laboratory work is very cost-intensive and
can only be carried out by qualified laboratory personnel. TheOnyx
offers significant savings potential, as it is also able to function
fully automatically in night mode.
The robot software has
been especially developed to be closely oriented towards customer
needs. The customer is able to obtain exactly the level of expertise
he or she wishes to have at special training seminars. This status
ranges from elementary user protocols through to self-programming of
applications.
An additional product advantage is the pump
mechanism for dosing liquids. TheOnyx has an individual micro-pump
for every pipette tip which works on the principle of positive
displacement. This means that volumes can be changed extremely
flexibly. The tips can also me moved independently of each other.
